Learning how to care for a towel is important for extending the life of a towel and keeping it in good condition. Here are some tips for caring for your towels:
- Wash before use: Wash your towels before using them for the first time to remove any residual softeners from the manufacturing process. Dryability and absorption will increase after a few washes. For most towels, the off the shelf feel is different than the reality after wash. Our towels are pre-washed at the factory so they can safely be used out of the box. But absorption will improve over time as they towels are broken in.
- Wash in warm water: Use warm water (not hot) and a mild detergent to wash your towels. Avoid using fabric softeners, as they can reduce the absorbency of the towels over time. Fabric softeners actually repel water, so you may have a softer hand but they will not dry you as well.
- Don’t overload the washer: Don’t cram too many towels into the washing machine at once, as this can prevent them from getting clean and can cause excess wear and tear.
- Tumble dry on low heat: To dry your towels, tumble dry them on low heat. Avoid over-drying, as this can damage the fibers and reduce the fluffiness of the towel. And it is not necessary to wash after each use, let them hang and air dry. Save water, electricity and your time! Our Brazilian towels are so big they can be used several days in between washes.
- Don’t bleach: Avoid using bleach on your towels, as it can weaken the fibers and cause them to break down over time. With our Brazilian wave towels, you can bleach if necessary as the stripes are fadeproof. But it is not recommended to bleach regularly as it weakens the fibers..
- Avoid contact with skincare products: To prevent stains and discoloration, avoid allowing skincare products like lotions, oils, and acne medications to come into contact with your towels.
- Wash towels separately: To prevent lint and snags, wash your towels separately from other clothing items. If you find snags or pulls on clothes or towels, you may have a sharp edge inside your washer or dryer. Take some panty hose over your hand and wipe around the dryer first, see if you catch any snags and there is your culprit.
By following these care tips, you can help ensure that your towels stay soft, fluffy, and absorbent for years to come. Additionally, choosing high-quality towels made from durable materials can also help extend their lifespan.
